When we sat down with Erika Portis, Director of Performance for Fanatics Betting & Gaming and upcoming SPARK Talent speaker, we learned that the best leaders don’t need guarantees to set their sights high. True HR leaders ride the waves that come to them and take chances when they see it. Not everything is guaranteed, but sometimes you need to bet on your talent that they’ll succeed.
During our conversation, Portis thought back to a pivotal moment in her career, where one of her first teams partnered with a leadership council team, and came out the other side with a presentation of what they learned. What Portis saw was a group of people, for the first time, understanding how leadership was deeply intertwined in being a good human.
